Amazon.com reported net income of $130 million ($0.28 Diluted EPS) for the first quarter ended Mar 31, a 35% decrease from a year ago. Net sales rose 33.8% to $13.185 billion, while sales excluding the effects of foreign exchange increased 34.3%. Sales in the U.S. increased 35.9% in the quarter to $7.427 billion, while International sales rose 31.1% to $5.758 billion, and worldwide media sales grew 19%, while electronic & other general merchandise sales increased 43%. The company expects second quarter sales of between $11.9 and $13.3 billion, or year-over-year growth of 20% to 34%, while operating income is expected to be -$260 million to +$40 million, compared to $201 million in Q2 2011.
