McDonald's (MCD) has an incredible marketing machine and budget, capable of delivering multiple value, product and brand/theme messages, world-wide.

In 2009 and 2010 to date, many smaller restaurant operators got caught in the trap of promoting either value priced or premium product, and thereby risking either average check or traffic. Somehow, both need to be supported.

That being said, don't look for US strength for some time.
